An update of our weekend at The One Life Live Show

This year was very interesting.  Different from last year, a few less people I think and not un expectantly an air of desperation and concern among some people.

The first lady who came to our stand had just been made redundant.  A familiar story you might think - but she has been a solicitor for 35 years!!!  A conveyancing solicitor and with the down-turn in the housing market she had lost her job.

And that was a pattern for the whole show really.  Those people who had been thinking about downshifting 12 months ago because they felt trapped and wanted to get off the treadmill are now clinging on to their jobs. I suppose that is an interesting point about redundancy - even if you hate your job - there is still a difficulty if someone says you have to go - even if you really want to.  We may want to go but we certainly dont want to be pushed!

Here we are on the Stepping Off stand at One Life Live.

We help people try and think about loosing a job as a possible opportunity rather than a devastating situation.

Of course it is difficult, and I would not ever want to reduce the impact it has on people but for some it is a release and an time to give themselves permission to be what they might have always wanted to be - to do what they had always wanted to do.

So the weekend was different - people were a little more cautious - but really looking for something that would help them make the right decisions about their future and start planning for change.

We met some wonderful people.  The weekend was really good fun.  I gave a talk on each of the days on the main stage which was an uplifting experience and we were delighted with the number of bookings we took for our courses.

Even more delighted when we nearly doubled the number of bookings within the following two weeks.  I guess people were quite rightly being a little more cautious with their money and they went home - found the website and took a little longer to assure themselves that Stepping Off was for them.

So now we have people booked in throughout the rest of the year.  We are ready to help people who want to downshift, are facing redundancy, approaching retirement; people looking to change their career, take a gap year, get out of the rat race, start their own business and take the steps to make their dreams a reality.

We are already looking forward to One Life Live 2010.  See you there at stand N62!
